On Friday 24th June 2022, MYO held an Instrument Zoo and open rehearsal. It was a fantastic opportunity for young people from Essex to try new instruments with highly skilled music tutors from Essex Music Education Hub and MYO’s volunteers. Visitors also had the opportunity to join a rehearsal with members of the orchestra.

The event was free thanks to the generous support of Essex County Council’s Arts and Culture Fund. Over 90 visitors participated from Essex primary schools to try everything from euphoniums to violins, trumpets to timpani, cellos to trombones and drums to piano and more.

Not only was it great fun, but also a great reminder of how important making music is to young people’s happiness, confidence, social and emotional development and wellbeing.
