MYO holds concerts at the end of the winter and summer terms, and for various charity and community-related events. Below you will find details of some of our concerts, and links to videos from fundraising events for MYO.
MYO Instrument Zoo – 16th February 2024
MYO’s 2024 Instrument Zoo and public rehearsal was a huge success. It was brilliant to see so many people trying out new instruments, making music together and having lots of fun!
It was a fantastic opportunity for young people from Essex to try new instruments our members, and with highly skilled music tutors from Essex Music Education Hub and MYO’s volunteers. Visitors also had the opportunity to join a rehearsal with members of the orchestra.
The event was free thanks to the generous support of Essex County Council’s Arts and Culture Fund. Participants had the opportunity to try everything from euphoniums to violins, trumpets to oboes, cellos to trombones, drums and more!
Our Instrument Zoos are such a great reminder of how important making music is to young people’s happiness, confidence, social and emotional development and wellbeing. MYO firmly believes access to making music should be available to all young people. You can read more about our mission and work here.

MYO were delighted to play at a special event for children at the Maldon Museum of Power. Two great performances and a wonderful day in the sunshine with our members and guest percussionists from the audience!
30 November and 3 December 2017
On 30 November, MYO played as part of Maldon’s Vintage Shopping evening.
We again sported our best Christmas jumpers to play at the United Reform Church advent concert to round off our Autumn term on 3 December 2017.
Saturday 25 February 2017
MYO is really pleased that the Mayor of Maldon, Cllr Richard Miller, decided to make us one of his chosen charities in 2017! MYO work hard to create a fabulous evening of entertainment on Saturday 25th February 2017 at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Maldon. The event was a ticketed, black-tie event and the programme included pieces performed by the orchestra together with past members of MYO, now professional musicians.
MYO PRESENTS – MEGAN HILL
On Friday 1 May 2015, former MYO Leader Megan Hill performed a recital to raise funds for the orchestra. The programme included Bartok, Elgar, Gershwin, Mozart, Vivaldi, Williams as well as a selection of more modern pieces including from Elbow and an encore from Grease. Proceeds were kindly donated by Megan to MYO. For more information about Megan click here
